The mentor role

Challenge

DFØ offers training for mentors in its trainee programme, for people with gaps in their CV or a disability.

The course used to run only as in-person training. But it was hard to get managers to join, because they thought it would take too much time and get in the way of their own work.

To make the training easier to access and complete, DFØ wanted to offer it online too – including to managers who want to be mentors without joining the trainee programme. The tools and templates also needed to be easy to find.

Solution

Working closely with DFØ, we built the course “The Mentor Role” – a digital course with four lessons:

Mentor with head and heart: What it means to be a mentor.
Check-in: How to get off to a good start with your employee, including advice on the collaboration agreement, which sets the framework and direction for the partnership.
On track: Tips for good dialogue, good questions and active listening.
Check-out: How to end the mentor relationship well.

Storyboard created animations, interactive tasks and reflection exercises. We also built a knowledge base, conversation guidelines, a question bank and templates for the mentor role, including the collaboration agreement.

The course follows universal design principles and meets the WCAG 2.1 AA standard.
